ONEST

The landscape design project for the ONEST residential complex. The project is based on the architectural language of the complex: the façade grid is projected onto the site master plan. A distinctive feature of the architecture is the sky halls—leisure spaces located within the towers—which are reflected in the landscape design as ground halls serving as the main functional zones of the courtyard.

The master plan of the residential complex is structured as a grid. Several grid configurations and options for the technical implementation of the modules were explored. Ultimately, a system of planted modules was developed, with narrow passages between them. These passages can be used both by gardeners for maintenance and by residents for walking. The courtyard space includes two playgrounds, a coworking area, a zone for board games and table tennis, an art plaza, and several quiet relaxation areas. The functional zones break the rigidity of the grid by forming irregular green edges around each area.

To emphasize the architecture of the towers, we proposed planting slender, narrowly conical trees throughout the site, reinforcing the sense of perspective through strong vertical lines. The lower planting layer of perennials and shrubs is organized into modular compositions—square units combining “wild” and clipped shrubs, perennial flowering plants, and creeping ground covers. This approach creates an effect of continuous blooming from March through October. The modules are arranged to create a layered perception of space. The complex topography of the site is addressed through terracing while maintaining the modular planting grid.

The main functional zone of the complex is the art plaza with a fountain–pond at its center. Planters with trees placed within the water create the effect of vegetation growing directly from the surface of the pond. The plaza continues the overall grid structure of the landscape through paving patterns and tree placement. Lounge chairs and small tables are distributed throughout the site in shaded areas for relaxation.

The small architectural forms also reference the architecture of the residential complex. A stainless steel bench is divided into modules that reflect the rhythm of the façade, while the soft seating elements, made of a special material in a light blue color, are inspired by the reflection of the sky on the building. In addition to benches, several typologies of small architectural elements were designed to enrich the functional zones and give each of them a distinct atmosphere.
