Task: to develop a concept for a contemporary landscape park near the residential areas of Barvikha and Nemchinovka, in compliance with the landscaping standards for protected natural areas.

Solution: we began working on the park concept by studying the context and searching for the site’s identity. It turned out that this territory is closely connected with the name of the great Russian avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevich, who frequently visited the nearby village of Nemchinovka after 1917 and drew inspiration from its local landscapes. There is even a legend of the “Malevich Oak,” well known among scholars of his work. We proposed to preserve the memory of the place, which led to the decision to name the park after Malevich. This defined the spatial image of the park, referencing the tradition of Russian Suprematism.

The concept developed by Basis Bureau is built on recreating the connection between nature and art. It предполагает использование базовых форм, близких к primary geometric shapes: the square, circle, and triangle, as well as reflective mirror surfaces of architectural elements (stainless steel combined with black). The restrained asceticism of the architecture emphasizes the vitality and natural beauty of the landscape.

The functional zoning of the park was shaped in response to the needs of local residents. For example, a strong local community of volleyball players has formed here, gathering to play in almost any weather. We preserved these courts, making them more comfortable and contemporary. The park will also include a sports cluster with football fields, tennis and badminton courts, pavilions, and spectator stands. Park pavilions inspired by Suprematist compositions will be adapted to accommodate cafés and art spaces.

The park zones are arranged in a way that maximizes the preservation of green areas and the existing landscape.
