We developed a landscaping concept design for a public park. The design was inspired by multifaceted history of the town, which combines the features of an experimental garden city, a science city and a center of aircraft industry.
The park is an important part of green space. We decided to keep the existing division of space in the park to save the usual walking routes of the locals. A picturesque topography with a gully in the middle offers a variety of scenarios for recreation: in winter it can be sliding down the hill, in spring it can be water travel, and in summer - enjoying green scenery. A coniferous forest, its inhabitants and a rich green palette create the feeling of being one with nature.
For the amenities, we chose minimalistic shapes and natural materials, such as wood and metal of muted tones to emphasize the characteristic features of the location and focus on the surrounding nature.
As part of making a concept design, we did not just modernize the existing points of attraction, but added new ones. Thus, next to the central square on the western slope of the gully, an amphitheater with comfortable seating and a summer stage was reconstructed.
On the eastern slope, a mixed-use pavilion was built, combining rooms for the park administration and a hall to hold classes and exhibits. Entrance spaces, sports and play equipment rental stations, kiosks were designed as well, while the existing projection room that for a long time had been used as a warehouse and was in a dismal state, was restored and returned to its original purpose retaining its historical value.
We paid a lot of attention to sports grounds and playgrounds that are dearly loved by the town’s residents. A bright feature of the city is the variety of equipment for children – amusement rides, swings and merry-go-rounds. Being inspired by toy blocks, we have devised a modular system to design pavilions.
When working on the façade ornament, we turned to the town history analyzing visual elements of earlier structures. It helped us identify the decorative traits outlining the continuity of style and creating a connection with the historical heritage. Minimalistic patterns on the smooth surface become the symbols of a bygone era, adding the uniqueness and depth to the modern design.
